                                            Salon 3 Paragraphs

Romanesque Art rose during the period of time from 1000 AD to the rise of Gothic style in the 13th century. This form of art at the time contained a lot of sculpting and painting. Important religious or historical figures were what most sculptures displayed. Paintings included last judgement scenes and the life of Christ. Primary and very striking colors were used at the time. They still remain bright today in stained glass and well preserved manuscripts.

It is said that "Compositions had little depth and needed to be flexible to squeeze  into the shapes of historiated initials, column capitals, and church typanums; the tension between a tightly enclosing frame, from which the composition sometimes escapes, is a recurrent theme in Romanesque art." Many figures still varied in size compared to landscapes and their backgrounds. In this period, precious objects held a high status. The Metalwork included a lot of decoration in enamel.

With the fall of the Roman Empire carving large works in stone and sculpting figures in bronze eventually died out. Mural decorations of religious times were also a frequently used form of art. There are many paintings in Arlanza, Spain that show huge and vigorous mythical beasts. The range of colors in most large paintings were light blue-green, yellow ochre, reddish brown and black.

The piece I chose is a sculpture from the Romanesque time. The name of this piece is  "Bronze Patron Bust of Roman Matron" The Period it was created in was ca. AD 20-50. And the Medium that is used is Bronze. Today it is located in the Metropolitan Museum of Art. The sculpture is that of someone who holds significance like most other sculptures of that time. You can see that a lot of intricate detail went into the piece especially the features of the matron.
